Mug rug Swap 2011

So here are the mug rugs I sent off to South Carolina. I forgot to get pictures of them with the bindings on them. I suppose I need to get more on the ball cause it's been a while and I'm just getting blogging about these. Geez, I feel like a bad person

Finds for fun.....

A few weeks ago we were hanging out with some good friends and we were talking about old sewing machines and Julie goes to pull them out to share. along with the machines she pulled out and old block of the month set she had started but had never finshed. So she gave them to me. For a while they sat in a basket until last week until I grabbed them and opened one to check them out. WOW!!!! How easy it's all cut up for you. All you had to do was sew it together. I thought I would share the 2 blocks that were put together already and then the one I did.

Modern Mosiacs

On flickr a while back I signed up for the modern mosiac swap. It's pretty much you make however many blocks and then send them in and get back how many you send in. It's based on this tutorial from Oh, Frasson!. Geez this is really cool looking but I can't even believe how hard the first block is to make. Even though you have the tutorial and the advice from the others in the group it still took me about 3 hours and lots of visits frommy best friend seam ripper. So here it is..........

As you can see from that blue sliver I wasn't really paying attention and When I squared it up the whole block got cut.

Many thanks...

I received the best suggestions for getting over my slump. I want to say thank you so very much. I have to say the sitting down and do a little mindless sewing was what worked the best along with a little sunshine. To bad it's only 12 degrees outside.

So this is what my mindless sewing accomplished for me. I made a baby blanket I wish I knew what the fabric was but of course I bought a charm pack from my LQS when they were making charm packs with fabrics and I meant to look when I stopped in there today. The bad part was I don't have anything to bind this with until I go back out and buy it and I'm annoyed cause I was there this morning.
And because everyone has such lovely quilt in the snow pictures I wanted one too. I think I'm going to name this quilt beetlejuice. Those swirley black and white things on the fabric make me think of beetlejuice

WIP 4

I have done nothing this week. I must be in a winter depression and the lack of sunshine is killing me cause I don't even feel a pull to go sit in my chair in my sewing nook. So if you want to see what I have to work on click here. I'm linking this post casue maybe someone can share with me what they do they feel this way to make them want to go back in and start working again.

P.S. a little over a month untill I see these guys coming up, hopefully spring will show up in march this year.

Sledding on ice.

My brother took my daughter sledding on the hill across from my mom's house. Here are the pictures. They are from far away due to my ankle. I got hurt a few years ago and my tendons and ligaments are like over stretched rubber bands. I also fall alot on ice. I was really jealous cause it looked like so much fun.

The red is a sheet of plexiglass. They said it was way funner than the sled. It went a lot faster.

My brother as he slipped and fell trying to get on the sled.

Blake pushing H and he slipped again.
Sorry for the tree limbs in the pictures. As I was packing for the storm I forgot to grab my winter coat so I had to take the pictures from the second floor of my mom's house through the window.

WIP 3

Today I have been digging my car out from under ice in order to go home. The top and windshield probably had 4 inches of ice. I had to chisel my way into it with my key to be able to start it and get my scrapper. Fun times.
 Things I have worked on...

My mug rugs. Gasp! I used polyester batting. I finally have used up the last of what was giving to me. YAY! For the other one I broke open one of my Sunkissed charms. No pictures of that one yet.

This scrappy quilt. I need to finish pressing the strips and cutting them. Then one I have the color pieces finished I can start cutting the white pieces. I'm sure there is a better way to do this but I'm trying to be methodical. We'll see how well it goes.

Things I haven't been working on...

This quilt needs  to have the backing made and possible have a border put on it. I think this guy will be staying home since it's not lined up very well. H's babies always need quilts.

This quilt needs the backing made. I thought I would be able to just use the fabric I had until I realized I didn't buy enough so a pieced back it is. I'm not sure how I want to piece it together so it just sits and waits.
The daughter's Seuss quilt needs a backing and I'm thinking I may just go with a plain red back with a cross with the leftover Seuss fabric pieced in. So again another pieced backing needing to be made.

This quilt needs to have the binding and then it's good for the washer. Trouble is I don't know what to bind it in. Any suggestions? The front is pink and green and the backing is tan. I was thinking a green plaid.

My hourglass quilt the blocks are all done. I need to start squaring them up.
My strippy Arcadia quilt needs to have the rest of the Kona Bone cut for the strips. I have 20 left to do. Unfortunately I need to finish my design wall so I can lay them out so I can decide on their layout before I can sew them.

Slumber parties and Ice storms

With the warnings of huge ice storms where I live. We have packed up and headed to my Mom's. She has a generator and we have a lovely house but I have a magnolia tree, and unfortunately there is the main power line that runs through that tree and I really didn't want to wake up to no power and having a difficult time tying to get anywhere with icy roads. We also do not have a generator

So in the meantime we are playing the Wii, reading books. and watching movies. Sorry about a picture from Christmas but of course I didn't grab the camera either.

My brave hubby decided to man our house in case we lost power he could shut off water mains and such. What I do regret in my hurry to pack us up and ship us out was to grab my sewing machine. This being home and knowing I could get a lot done but nothing to work on sucks.
